Product overview

Frontgrade’s newest Single Board Computer design (the SBC Gen 8) is based on our rad-hard and TRL 9 GR740 Quad Core LEON4FT SPARC V8 processor. This SBC can deliver up to 1700 DMIPS of processing power in a compact 3U SpaceVPX design, targeted at spacecraft Command and Data Handling (C&DH) or payload processing applications. Its powerful design features front panel SpaceWire, Ethernet, CAN, and UART interfaces and up to 1.75 GB of SDRAM / MRAM memory for application and data storage. Frontgrade’s M0+ Microcontroller manages SEFI detection as well as interventions and power sequencing.

A significant feature of the SBC Gen 8 is its ability to scale with various mission types due to the computer’s versatile mezzanine modules, which can expand I/O or processing resources. For greater agility, these mezzanine modules can be created either by Frontgrade or by the customer. The mezzanine approach helps drive significant cost savings as it avoids expensive SBC architecture redesign for varying mission profiles. Customers can inexpensively reuse and maintain their investment in software and firmware infrastructure while still scaling and customizing the SBC Gen 8’s core capabilities for specific mission requirements.

Frontgrade’s SBC Gen 8 can be delivered with several options and with several parts pedigrees to target Class A through D missions. The computer supports Linux, VxWorks, and RTEMS operating systems.
